Free Claude Code skills that take the admin off a small business
Two skills we wrote for business owners, not developers. Each one is a short set of instructions Claude Code follows on your own computer: read a folder of receipts into a spreadsheet, or work out where your admin time is going. Free to use and free to change.
One command each, and you approve the result
Every skill follows the same rule: it does the reading and the typing, and a person decides.
Receipt reader
Point it at a folder of receipts and supplier invoices — PDFs, scans or phone photos. It reads each one and writes a spreadsheet with supplier, date, net, VAT and gross. Anything blurred, duplicated or missing a VAT breakdown is flagged for you instead of guessed. Command: /receipt-reader
Admin audit
It interviews you with ten plain questions about how a job gets from enquiry to invoice, adds up the hours using your own numbers, and ranks the three fixes worth doing first — including the ones that are just a setting in software you already pay for. Command: /admin-audit

You’ll need Claude Code installed to use them. The skills are plain text files, so you can open them and read exactly what they tell Claude to do.

Get Claude Code
Claude Code is Anthropic’s AI tool that works on the files on your own computer. Install it from Anthropic if you don’t have it yet.

Unzip the skill
Each skill is a small folder with one instructions file inside. Unzip the download and you’ll see it.

Move it into place
Put the folder in
.claude/skillsinside your home folder. On a Mac that’s~/.claude/skills. Create the folder if it isn’t there. - 4
Type the command
Open Claude Code in the folder that holds your files and type the command, for example
/receipt-reader. It takes it from there.
It reads. You approve.
AI is good at reading and typing, and it is sometimes wrong. So each skill tells Claude to stop and flag rather than guess, and to leave your original files alone. These are instructions, not locks, which is why you check the result before you rely on it.

What is Claude Code?
Claude Code is an AI tool made by Anthropic that works directly with the files on your computer. You tell it what you want in plain English and it reads, writes and organises files for you. It runs in a terminal, as a desktop app and on the web.
What is a Claude Code skill?
A skill is a folder containing written instructions that Claude Code follows for one particular job. There is nothing to install beyond putting the folder in place, and because the instructions are plain text you can read exactly what the skill will and won’t do.
Are the skills really free?
Yes. The skills are free to use and free to change. You do need Claude Code itself, which needs a paid Claude plan or an Anthropic API account. Check Anthropic’s current pricing for that.
Do I need to be technical to use them?
You need to be comfortable installing an app and moving a folder. After that it’s one typed command, and the skill asks you plain-English questions when it needs something.
Where do my documents go?
Not to us. A skill runs inside your own copy of Claude Code, and your files are read by Claude under your own Anthropic account and its terms. The skills contain no code that sends anything to JN Technology or anywhere else.
Can I change a skill to suit my business?
Yes. Open the instructions file in any text editor and edit it. If you’d rather we wrote one for a specific job in your business, get in touch.
